Our research obtains scientific insights as to what constitutes "quality and taste" in food products. We use the findings to create new value in alcohol beverage and soft drink products.

We take a scientific approach to establishing what constitutes "good taste" in alcohol beverages and soft drinks. Our approach includes identifying substances that give distinct tastes and flavors to food items, and learning about the gustatory system in the human body and the physiology of taste.

As a high-fat diet is reported to be responsible for the increase in lifestyle diseases, people have become more interested in preventing such diseases and maintaining good health through a well-balanced diet. Armed with a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise we have accumulated, we shed scientific light on how food ingredients affect the human body. In addition, the Kirin Group has launched a group-wide project to establish a health and functional foods business that delivers a new joy of food and health to customers. We have taken full advantage of our entire value chain to develop food products using functional materials sourced from within the Group as part of a larger business scheme to maximize synergy among group companies.

It is believed that beer was invented more than 5,000 years ago. The Kirin Group has been working with research institutions and laboratories in Japan and abroad to study the ways in which beer affect human health. Through a series of studies we have found that beer contains ingredients active in suppressing the carcinogenic process, and hop-derived ingredient improving insulin resistance and lipid metabolism.
